If You Read This, You Probably Have a Mac

I’m not sure if it’s the Mac person or the marketer in me but I find this likely meaningless bit of trivia fascinating. It seems Mac users have an edge over Dell owners when it comes to “social participation” online, which would include sites like this one. Here’s what they found:

Apple Dell
Creators — Blog, publish web pages, upload videos 21% 12%
Critics — Comment on blogs, post ratings and reviews 25% 19%
Collectors — Use RSS, tag web pages 24% 14%
Joiners — Use social networking sites 26% 19%
Spectators — Read blogs, watch video, listen to podcasts 55% 30%
Inactives — Don’t participate in “social” activities online 34% 54%

Here at Pensito Review, one of us is totally Mac (hey, is that Uncle Tupelo on my Pandora station?), one of us is totally PC (Jon), and one of us goes back and forth, as expected from a registered Independent (Buck).

  1. Since when is Dell 100% of PC’s, as Apple is? The only way these stats could get more useless is if you replaced ‘Dell’ with ‘Megatron’. Sheesh…

  2. You’re absolutely right, Titus, and the first time I began this post I noted that I had no idea why the Dell brand was chosen to contrast with Mac. But then I hit the “Tab” button before saving, and through no fault of my Mac — operator error only — I had to start all over. The second time I forgot that part. And Fuzzbutt, I suspect you’re right too!

  3. And then when you go to realize that for each Mac user there are at least ten PC users, then 25 percent of the pool of Mac users vs fifteen percent of PC users still means a vast majority of the people engaging in this activity are PC users. Thus contraindicating the snarky headline. That kind of snark is why Mac disciples annoy normal people.
