Conservative “intellectuals” bought into this this bizarre critique, of course, even though it put Obama in pretty good presidential company. It’s fair to say that Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Monroe and Jackson were all “anti-colonial,” for example.
Or maybe D’Souza’s name rings a bell because a book in which he presented his whackadoodle racist theories about the source of the president’s purported “rage” — he’s black so he must be angry, right? — was made into a documentary, “2016: Obama’s America,” which was released this year. Despite bad reviews in the mainstream press, it still managed to gross $33 million, making it one of the most profitable documentaries of all time.
D’Souza is a doctrinaire Christianist who supports torture but opposes gay marriage, women’s rights and the rest, so naturally he is now being treated like scourge by his former friends on the holier-than-thou right because he was caught dating a woman 22 years younger than he is while still married to his wife of 20 years:
The evangelical magazine World reported Tuesday that D’Souza, who is also the president of The King’s College in Manhattan, shared a hotel room with Denise Odie Joseph at a conference in South Carolina in September and introduced her to at least three people as his fiancée. A conference organizer confirmed to World that D’Souza and Joseph had both checked in to the hotel and left together, and D’Souza confirmed to the magazine that he and Joseph were engaged. But California court records show that he only filed for divorce from his wife on Oct. 4, which means he will be married for at least another six months. D’Souza later sent a text message to World’s reporter saying that he had decided to “suspend” the engagement.
Oh, and just to make a double-whammy adultery, Joseph is also married. She was quoted in April as saying she voting for Mitt Romney because her husband “told her to.”
The most recent fallout from the scandal is that D’Souza was forced to resign as president of Kings College in New York.
