Poetic Justice
The recent news out of Kentucky was just awful,
They found the senator unconscious and horizontal.
And since his hospitalization,
There’s been little news about his condition,
But now everybody’s having a 20-minute conversation with Mitch McConnell.
uhh
1) This is why I stopped going to church. And by “this” I mean the way my thoughts were forcibly shifted from “hey she’s cute, I should go talk to her and maybe hang out” to wanting to gnaw my own leg off just to get away.
2) Thankfully, not all Christians are like this. Some of us are reasonable. At my church yesterday we did pray for Japan… we prayed for mercy, comfort, and healing. This video is a perverse example of the weird “everything is part of God’s plan” idea that some hold. I think that idea is boneheaded when taken to such a micro level; if natural evil reduced directly to immediate divine action, then causality and free will would both be moot and existence would be foundationally meaningless.
3) Nonetheless, I volunteer to apologize on behalf of Christianity, the overarching religion, for this video. If I had any control, I’d say I wouldn’t let it happen again. But since this particular world religion is, in fact, a big tent of diverse ideas and belief sets, I can’t actually make such a promise.
