DeLay Contributor Fined for Making Illegal Contributions

According to the Washington Post, the Federal Election Commission has fined Kansas-based Westar Energy excecutives and lobbyists $40,500 for making contributions to House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (Tex.) and other Republicans.

DeLay was admonished for creating the “improper appearance” that Westar might receive special access or treatment when he attended the company’s golf fundraiser in June 2002, according to the House ethics committee.

It is illegal for corporations to contribute to federal campaigns.
