From the Right, They All Look Alike

Fox News: All sad Asians look alike.

Remember during the last presidential campaign when Mitt Romney was reaching out for the Hispanic vote and the Republican National Committee jumped in to help out with a Latino-oriented website that featured a stock photo of Asians instead of Latinos?

Well, it’s happened again. To Fox News.

Figuring one sad Asian is as good as another, Fox ran video of a grief-stricken woman mourning the Sherpas who died on Mount Everest in a story about the Sewol Korean ferry disaster. Koreans living in the United States could tell the difference, even if the bright lights at Fox couldn’t, and spoke up.

Fox News: Fair and Balanced — and Dumb as Rocks.

Come to Kansas Because We’re Openly Racist!

I’m going to invite you, because we have a lovely doctor from India. She’s in her mid-30s, and she’s highly respected by the community. And another doctor from India that did my carpal tunnel when I did a stupid thing. And so, I think you’d be right at home, and we would welcome you.

— Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS), quoted by Dave Weigel, suggesting Indian-American nominee for Surgeon General Vivek Murthy visit Kansas.

In the South, the Immigration Reform Debate Comes Down to Racism

Part of it, I think — and I hate to say this, because these are my people — but I hate to say it, but it’s racial. If you go to town halls people say things like, ‘These people have different cultural customs than we do.’ And that’s code for race.

— A Southern Republican congressman, speaking to BuzzFeed, on immigration reform.

N.C. Lawmaker Says Obama Is Not a Traitor — to Kenya!

Someone had posted something with a picture of Barack Obama and across it said ‘traitor.’ And, you know, I don’t always agree with the guy, I certainly didn’t vote for him but I gotta defend him on this one. I just don’t think it’s right at all to call Barack Obama a traitor. There’s a lot of things he’s done wrong but he is not a traitor. Not as far as I can tell. I haven’t come across any evidence yet that he has done one thing to harm Kenya.

— North Carolina state Rep. Larry Pittman (R), telling a crowd of supporters that President Obama isn’t a traitor to his country — if that country is Kenya.

Plumber Joe Wants a White Republican President Because He’s an American

Admit it. You want a white Republican president again. Now before you start feeling like you’re a racist, understand you are not. Wanting a white Republican president doesn’t make you racist, it just makes you American.

— Joe “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher, the everyman used by John McCain in the 2008 presidential campaign, in a new post on his website.

Colo. Senator: Fried Chicken Causes Poverty

When you look at life expectancy, there are problems in the black race: sickle-cell anemia is something that comes up, diabetes is something that’s prevalent in the genetic makeup and you just can’t help it. Although I’ve got to say, I’ve never had better BBQ and better chicken and ate better in my life than when you go down South and you — I love it.

— Colorado state Sen. Vicki Marble (R), suggesting that more blacks and Hispanics live in poverty, in part, because of fried chicken, KDVR reports. Marble went on to mention that Mexicans eat vegetables in Mexico, but stop eating healthily when they immigrate to the United States.
