A Field Poll of California voters out this week [PDF] found Pres. Obama’s job approval rating has rebounded in the state to 57 percent — up 12 percentage points from five months ago when his approval rating was 45 percent.

By party affiliation, the president’s job approval rating was 84 percent among Democrats, 54 percent among independents and 18 percent among Republicans. Overall, just 36 percent said they disapproved of the president’s job performance.

Analysis by Field pollsters suggests that approval of the president’s handling of the economy and optimism about the overall direction of the country among California Democrats is behind the surge in Obama’s polling:

Poll: California Is Ready for Hillary

59%

Percentage of California Democrats who say they will vote for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should she run for president in 2016, according to the Field Poll [PDF]. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren trailed Clinton with 17 percent. Among Republicans, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker led Florida businessman Jeb Bush by 2 percentage points, 18 to 16 percent. The poll also found that 19 percent of California Republicans are undecided.

Poll Finds 64% Tea Party Support for Impeaching Pres. Obama

A poll from Democracy Corps found that the Republican base supports impeaching Pres. Obama by a two-to-one margin. The poll did not ask what high crime or misdemeanor tea partyists believe the president is guilty of, but presumably it is “presidenting while black.”

Congressional tea party boss Ted Cruz routinely bullied House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and other GOP leaders in the 113th Congress into pursuing unpopular actions, chiefly including shutting down the government. Polls like this one suggest that it’s more likely than not that Boehner, McConnell, now the incoming majority leader in the Senate, and the rest will be cowed by Cruz — whose extremist caucus will have at least six new members in the Senate — into proceeding with impeachment in the 114th Congress.
