Meanwhile, 50% think Israel is committing genocide based on what they know about the situation in Gaza, while 35% do not think Israel is committing genocide and 15% did not offer an opinion.

The Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index ticked down by 1.3 points to 97.4 in August, down from July’s 98.7, but in the same narrow range of the past three months, the AP reported. A measure of Americans’ short-term expectations for their income, business conditions and the job market fell by 1.2 points to 74.8, remaining significantly below 80, the marker that can signal a recession ahead.

Whatever Rep. Nancy Mace (MAGA-SC) is selling in her run for South Carolina governor, they weren’t buying it at a church in Myrtle Beach last Thursday. Mace was set to give a speech at a Moms for Liberty event expecting about 100 people, but when she arrived at the church she found just eight people in the audience – and that number included reporters and security. Mace canceled the speech, took a few questions from reporters and left.

More than half of Americans supported allowing no-excuse mail-in voting in a Pew Research Center poll despite President Trump’s promise to end the practice he denounced as “fraudulent.” A 58% majority, including 83% of Democrats and 32% of Republicans, supported mail-in voting.

A new Economist/YouGov poll finds Americans have strong feelings about Donald Trump — and, increasingly, most of them are negative. The poll found 47% said they strongly disapprove of the second-term president, compared to 23% who say they strongly approve.

UC Berkeley poll in California finds asked about Gov. Gavin Newsom’s push for mid-cycle redistricting: 46% said it was a good idea, while 36% said it was a bad idea. Slightly more, 48%, said they would vote in favor of the temporary gerrymandering efforts if it appeared on the statewide special election ballot in November. Nearly a third said they would vote no, while 20% said they were undecided.
