Average amount it costs a U.S. politician to sway a single voter, according to an analysis of election data by Matilde Bombardini and Francesco Trebbi of the University of British Columbia. Factoring this into their calculations, the researchers also find that industries and other special-interest groups receive about $71 in government subsidies for every $1 of political contributions.
