A second national poll released after the tea party threatened to force the United States into default during the debt-ceiling negotiations finds voters holding an unfavorable view of the GOP tea party in particular.
On Aug. 5, a CBS/NYT poll found that 40 percent of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, the highest percentage recorded since CBS/NYT started polling the question.
Now a CNN poll finds that the hostage-taking tactics of the Republicans and their dominant fringe minority may have taken a toll on their collective public support, according to Huffington Post:
The new [CNN (PDF)] found that favorable ratings for House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in particular have fallen since CNN’s last poll public opinion on congressional leadership was conducted in late July. Over that time, Boehner’s favorable rating dropped, from 43 percent to 33 percent. At the same time, the percentage of respondents who said their opinion of Boehner was unfavorable rose from 32 percent to 40 percent.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also took a hit in the court of public opinion. His favorable rating dropped from 27 percent in the July poll to 21 percent in the August poll, while his unfavorable rating increased from 32 percent to 39 percent.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi remain unpopular, with favorable/unfavorables of 28/39 percent and 31/51 percent, respectively.
The tea party’s favorability declined from six percentage points, from 37/47 percent in July to 31/51 percent now. The Republican Party’s favorability took a slightly greater hit, declining 8 points from 41/55 percent last month to 33/59 percent now.
The favorables that ticked up were the Democrats, up two points from July, 45/49 percent then to 47/47 percent now.

Republicans have caused serious harm to our economy with their agenda against raising the debt limit and saying default would be no big deal. They have been unreasonable and dishonest. The stock markets reaction shows just one bad result of this GOP created crisis.
