O.K., it’s obviously a set-up but it’s still pretty funny.
Someone in the office of U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) tacked on a little something extra to a letter from the congresswoman to a constituent appalled by oil industry executives appearing before Congress in February. The letter ended:
i think you’re an asshole.
Since there was extra spacing and a hurriedly typed lowercase “i,” it looks as though the sentiment was added after the Republican personally signed the letter and added her own hand-written postscript apologizing for taking too long to respond. Let’s hope so anyway.

I’ve had some training in analyzing documents. One always wants the original, or as close to the original as possible to analyze.
That sentence looks like an add on to me. In addition to the lower case i, the s’s don’t blur the same way as the rest of the letter. The h in think and a**hole are different from the other h’s in the letter, and last but not least the period at the end of the sentence looks like a + sign, where the remaining periods in the letter are very definite periods. But, copies of copies of copies can make things look different than they are.
If I had to provide an analysis of this document I would first cite that it was a copy that appeared to have been faxed. I would cite the issues I raised and conclude that I was unable to render a definitive opinion without the original document.
That’s why Dan Rather should have never gone with his piece on W’s National Guard Service. No reputable document analyzer would stake their career on copies of copies.
My take is that she was dictating it and forgot to hang it up. She’s my representative, and usually she is nicer at telling us what she thinks of us, but she still ends up saying the same thing. Total contempt for us. I think she’s been in Washington DC too long.
