When I heard that Palin was coming to GA, I didn’t move one inch toward going to see her even though I live less than 75 miles from Atlanta. I knew she’d take the money and run. She had Handel put her up at the swankiest hotel in metropolitan Atlanta, the Intercontinental, along with the rest of her retinue. She could have stayed at the very nice, upscale Omni next to CNN near Phillips Arena for less, but she felt she deserved the best.
Handel took a gamble that Palin’s star power would encourage conservatives to vote for her. Not only did she lose the run-off in August, she accumulated over $50,000 in debt as a result of Palin’s visit. Oh, well, some people never learn. Since this information has emerged, I have a better understanding of why ajc.com reported that Handel did not attend the Republican Unity Luncheon the day after the run-off election. This probably also explains why I haven’t read of Handel endorsing Nathan Deal yet.
