Whatever works: The maneuver by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and company to unilaterally call the Senate into closed session yesterday turns out to have been quite effective.
The move clearly knocked the Republican Leader Bill Frist off his game. His performance before the cameras in the minutes before the closed session began is just further proof that he lacks the temperament for anything but the coddled life of a millionaire. (It’s amazing that such an emotionally unstable person could be a heart surgeon!)
As many of us recall from the half-dozen or so closed sessions held by the Senate during the impeachment trial of President Clinton, what goes on in the closed session stays there. So it may be a while before we learn what the Democrats said to the Republicans that made the majority party do a 180 on their failed investigation into the faulty intelligence that led us into the Iraq war.
Whatever it was the Dems said must have worked:
Republicans condemned the Democrats’ maneuver, which marked the first time in more than 25 years that one party had insisted on a closed session without consulting the other party. But within two hours, Republicans appointed a bipartisan panel to report on the progress of a Senate intelligence committee report on prewar intelligence, which Democrats say has been delayed for nearly a year.
The closed session manevuer also worked in another important way: It gave American liberals something to cheer about.
WELL, WELL, Sen. Reid:
Let it be that ALL Democrat Senators now “buck up” to the “bright” example you have set and continue to force the issues so important to this nation out of the “Rebublician Closit” of secrets into the public view, where they “rightfully” belong!
Good job, Sir…please continue to “fetch ’em up” to tell the truth.
It is about time! The Democrats have been wringing their hands regarding their earlier complicity in the Iraq vote..they seemed hamstrung by the potential backlash if they came out swinging…Now is the time..this war was wrong in the beginning, wrong in the middle and it will be wrong in the end…Democrats need to call the Republican Guard on their absolute betrayal of the American people. The only hope is that the Democrats grow some balls and take on this insane cabal of misfits. Atta Boy, Harry! (it’s about time!)…by the way..get that pant load Kennedy off his ass and tell Kerry to shut the F up…we need patriots now…real patriots..
