“House Democrats aren’t just beating Republicans at the fundraising game—they’re annihilating them,” the National Journal reports.“Ninety-two Republican incumbents were outraised by a challenger in the third quarter of 2018, a sharp increase from the 56 outraised in the second quarter. And that topline doesn’t even fully capture the scope of Democrats’ cash advantage. More than 50 of those members were outraised at least 2-to-1 and 31 were outraised 3-to-1 or more.”

Deadline: “The newsmag’s 1.8 rating among 18-49 year olds and 11.3 million viewers, while the strongest showing of any non-NFL program Sunday night, marks a 47% dive in the demo and 43% in total viewers, relative to Trump’s most recent previous 60 Minutes sit-down. … Trump had bagged a 3.4 demo rating, and 20M viewers overall, in his November 13, 2016 interview on the CBS newsmag, broadcast shortly after his election. That time, unlike this past Sunday, Trump enjoyed no NFL lead-in support.”

Half of College Students Say They’ll Vote in Midterms

A new College Reaction survey finds that 50% of college students say they’ll “definitely” vote this year. That includes 57% of Democrats and 40% of Republicans. Axios: “If true, that kind of turnout could help Democrats, since Republican students are more lukewarm about whether they’ll vote. But in reality, young voters aren’t exactly known for rushing to the polls in midterm elections. It would take a sharp break with recent history for that to become a reality.”

“President Trump has topped $100 million in fundraising for his 2020 reelection bid — an enormous haul for a president barely two years into his first term,” the Washington Post reports. “Trump pulled in more than $18 million last quarter through his campaign committee and two joint fundraising committees with the Republican National Committee, for a total of at least $106 million since January 2017, according to his campaign and federal filings.”

Budget Deficit Jumped 17 Percent in 2018

“The federal budget deficit swelled to $779 billion in fiscal year 2018, the Treasury Department said on Monday, driven in large part by a sharp decline in corporate tax revenues after the Trump tax cuts took effect,” the New York Times reports. “The deficit rose nearly 17 percent year over year, from $666 billion in 2017. It is now on pace to top $1 trillion a year before the next presidential election.”
