Paul People Set to Claim Conspiracy if He Doesn’t Win Iowa

Iowa Paulestinians are going crazy (is that redundant?) over the news that Republicans plan to count caucus votes in “an undisclosed location.” By that, we assume they mean the underground bunker where Dick Cheney passed most of his term as vice president.

On the one hand, we agree the so-called threat to vote security sounds entirely made up. On the other, we don’t think it means Republicans are engaged in a conspiracy to deny Rep. Ron Paul (GOP/Lib – Tx) some rightful victory.

But try telling that to Paul’s supporters.

I’m still waiting for a Ronulan to explain how Paul’s stance on abortion (he wants it outlawed) is consistent with his support for adults making their own decisions without government interference. Anybody?

Politico reported that the Iowa GOP was going under deep cover to count the votes, but cited an AP story that only claimed Occupy Wall Street protestors would attend caucuses and vote no preference. How such action would scuttle the vote is not clear but it indicates Republican paranoia about the Occupy movement.

The state party has not yet told the campaigns exactly where the returns will be added up, only that it will be off-site from the Iowa GOP’s Des Moines headquarters.

Meanwhile, the man himself continues to explain, explain, explain. When ABC’s Jake Tapper asked Paul about racist statements published repeatedly in the Ron Paul Survival Report, Paul confessed only to bad management skills.

After flipping and flopping their support from Donald Trump to Michele Bachmann then Rick Perry, Herman Cain and, most recently, Newt Gingrich, Iowa Republicans are giving Rick Santorum an 11th hour surge in the run-up to the caucuses tomorrow night, according to the Des Moines Register poll released Saturday night.

Santorum’s campaign has primarily been a retread of the culture wars of the 1990s. He is best known for his opposition to women’s reproductive rights and civil rights for gays. In 2005, he compared gay sexual relations to bestiality, for which he was given the nickname “Man on Dog” Santorum. (This despite the fact that his senior spokesman, Robert Traynham, was gay.) Seattle-based columnist Dan Savage responded to Santorum’s anti-gay hate rhetoric with the ultimate Google bomb. To this day, if you google Santorum’s name, the results suggest it means a “frothy mix” of body fluids.

Tennessee Hate Group Says Its Top 2012 Priority Will Be Making It Legal for Christians to Bully Gay Kids

Last session it was the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Now the battle lines are being drawn up over another bill that deals with discussion about homosexuality in schools.

The Family Action Council of Tennessee said in a newsletter emailed to supporters Tuesday that one of its top priorities for 2012 will be passage of legislation that changes the state’s anti-bullying law “to make sure it protects the religious liberty and free speech rights of students who want to express their views on homosexuality.”

The Tennessee Equality Project, a gay rights organization, has already sounded off on the measure, calling it “a ‘license to bully’ that allows them to hide their irrational biases behind an extreme religious belief.”
