Armey Takes Tea Party Payout to Leave FreedomWorks

Amount Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX) received as a payout to leave the conservative Tea Party group, FreedomWorks, “because of an internal split over the group’s future direction,” the AP reports. A confidential contract shows that Armey agreed in September to resign from his role as chairman of FreedomWorks in exchange for $8 million in consulting fees paid in annual $400,000 installments.

Of Republican voters nationally say they think that ACORN stole the election for President Obama, as compared to 52% that thought ACORN stole the 2008 election, a new Public Policy Polling survey shows. The survey notes that is “a modest decline, but perhaps smaller than might have been expected given that ACORN doesn’t exist anymore.”

Senate Republicans put their paranoia about the United Nations ahead of party loyalty, common sense and, especially, sanity yesterday — and insulted their former leader and their party’s 1996 presidential nominee, disabled World War II veteran Bob Dole to his face — when they voted down a U.N. treaty on disabilities Dole supports while he was on the Senate floor with them yesterday.
