Boehner and McConnell Dissed Obama on Election Night – Refused Phone Calls from the President, Claiming They Were Asleep

In his victory speech Tuesday night, Pres. Obama said he was ready to work with Republicans in Congress on the big issues facing the country:

“I am looking forward to reaching out and working with leaders of both parties to meet the challenges we can only solve together: reducing our deficit, reforming our tax code, fixing our immigration system, freeing ourselves from foreign oil.”

According to the New York Times, minutes after the president made those remarks, he placed calls to the two top Republican leaders in Congress — and they dissed him:

After his speech, Obama tried to call Boehner and the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, but was told they were asleep.

So Republican leaders can’t be bothered to get their dead asses out of bed when the president of the United States calls them? Seriously? These people are hopeless.

Theory: GOP Lost Due to Voter Supression

May I suggest instead a simple, elegant overriding theory on why we won’t have a Romney Administration in 2013? No serious political party in America — no legitimate party in any viable democracy — can win an election by suppressing votes. So long as the Republican Party endorses (and enacts) voting laws designed to make it harder for registered voters to vote, so long as Republican officials like Ohio’s Jon Husted contort themselves to interpret those laws in a restrictive fashion, the Republicans will continue to play a loser’s game. … That’s my theory, anyway, and I’m sticking to it. Having covered for the past two years the voting rights front in this epic election cycle, I have come to believe that the Republicans will begin to win presidential elections again only when they start competing for votes with the substance of their ideas.

Democratic Votes for House Candidates Actually Exceeded Republican Votes in Election

53,952,240

Votes were cast for a Democratic candidate for the House and only 53,402,643 were cast for a Republican — meaning that Democratic votes exceed Republican votes by more than half a million, according to Think Progress: “Although a small number of ballots remain to be counted, as of this writing, votes for a Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives outweigh votes for Republican candidates…”

Obama Re-Election Boosts U.S. Flag Sales in Pakistan

Of course Obama has become stronger now and he will push his policies harder and there will be more drone strikes because he himself is stronger now. When the drone strikes increase the protests against these strikes will also increase in Pakistan and it can have an impact on the flags and poster business.

— Nadeem Shah, owner of a flag business in Rawalpindi, explaining the uptick in sales of U.S. flags in Pakistan is due to an increase in flag burnings at anti-American protests.
