Carroll: Lesbians Can Be Attractive Black Married Women with Children, Too
It is wrong and inexcusable to make a comment that hurts people, and that was not my intention.
— Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll (R), apologizing “for offending lesbians when she said black women who engage in those relationships don’t look like her,” the AP reports. “Carroll, who was implying that black lesbians aren’t attractive, made the remarks more than a week ago when she was asked about court documents in which a fired staffer claims that she walked in on Carroll and a female travel aide in a compromising position. Carroll denies that claim.”
Passing On Dressage
Mitt Romney’s taken a firm Olympics stance.
Of changing his mind, there’s little chance.
Mitt absolutely,
Nay — positively,
Will not watch his wife’s trained horse dance.
Axelrod ‘Speechless’ Over Romney’s UK Gaffes
It’s been quite amazing so far. I’m almost speechless. That doesn’t happen too often.
— Obama strategist David Axelrod, quoted by the Los Angeles Times, on Mitt Romney’s “European misadventures.”
Republicans Spend More at Strip Clubs Than Dems During Conventions
$150
Average amount Republicans spend at strip clubs during their national convention, according to The New York Times. Tampa’s “well-known strip clubs have joined the welcome wagon” for the Republican national convention. Angelina Spencer, the executive director of the Association of Club Executives, which serves as a trade association for strip clubs, said an informal survey of convention business in New York and Denver had determined that Republicans dropped more money at clubs, by far: “Hands down, it was Republicans. The average was $150 for Republicans and $50 for Democrats.”
Romney Called England ‘Just a Small Island’
England [sic] is just a small island. Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn’t make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy. And if it hadn’t been separated from the continent by water, it almost certainly would have been lost to Hitler’s ambitions. Yet only two lifetimes ago, Britain ruled the largest and wealthiest empire in the history of humankind. Britain controlled a quarter of the earth’s land and a quarter of the earth’s population.

Sully: The Persistent Oddness of Mitt Romney
WTF? If your spouse’s horse were in an Olympic contest, would you not even watch? This is either a fib, designed to insulate him from whatever minimal fallout there is from owning a dressage horse; or it’s true and he’s just unlike other human beings. I mean, Obama makes sure he sees his daughters’ high school sports games. But Romney won’t even watch his wife’s horse at the Olympics?
– Andrew Sullivan at The Dish, reacting Mitt Romney telling a reporter that, even though he is in London for the Games, he will not watch his wife’s horse-dancing competition. “I have to tell you,” Romney said, “This is Ann’s sport. I’m not even sure which day the sport goes on. She will get the chance to see it, I will not be watching the event. I hope her horse does well.”
Jon Stewart on GOP Lies about Obama’s ‘Build It’ Comment: ‘You Really Wanna Hang Your Entire Campaign on a Willful, Out of Context Misunderstanding?’
Jon Stewart delves into the debate surrounding President Barack Obama’s “you didn’t build that” line last night on The Daily Show. Or rather, he delved into the lack of need for debate around Obama’s poorly worded assertion that businesses received government help to succeed. “You really wanna hang your entire campaign on a willful, out of context misunderstanding?” he asked the Mitt Romney campaign.
Romney Fails at Diplomacy on Day One of European Tour
Mitt Romney is in Europe this week for two reasons. He is there to watch his wife’s horse compete in a dressage event at the Olympics, and, by the way, to show that he has the diplomatic chops and foreign-affairs know-how to be president of the United States.
– Mitt Romney in London
On the latter bit, he has already failed.
Romney’s trip got off to a rocky start even before he left the country yesterday. Two of his advisers anonymously told the London Telegraph that Romney, whose father was born in Mexico and was white, is “part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage,” implying that President Obama, whose father was a born a British citizen but was black, was not. Now Romney has insulted his hosts by criticizing the London Olympics even before the opening ceremonies have gotten underway:
