If you’re up early and want political news and discussion on the teevee, but you can’t stomach MSNBC’s Fox News-lite Joe Scarborough show and you find C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” to be just too dry, there is a new alternative.
Current TV has begun running televised simulcasts of long-running radio chat shows hosted by Bill Press, weekday mornings at 6 a.m. Eastern/3 a.m. Pacific, and Stephanie Miller, from 9 a.m. Eastern/6 a.m. Pacific.
You may remember Bill Press as one of the liberal hosts of CNN’s “Crossfire.” He was also the chairman of the California Democratic Party, back in the olden days when California leaned Republican. His show broadcasts from Washington, D.C.
B.B. bait: As I’m watching Bill’s show right now at 5:42 a.m., he is sampling scotch provided by his interview guest, Nicholas Pollacchi, who is a Scot and is identified as the Balvenie ambassador.
Stephanie Miller’s show is what Mitt Romney might call “humorous,” except that, unlike Romney’s idea of humor — his dad laying off 4,000 workers in Michigan just prior to running for governor there or tying an Irish setter to the roof of a car and then driving for 12 hours — the Stephanie Miller show is actually funny. It was Steph who, for example, came up with the nickname “Caribou Barbie” for Sarah Palin. She broadcasts from Los Angeles.
Fun fact to know and learn about Stephanie Miller: Her father, William E. Miller, was Barry Goldwater’s running mate on the Republican ticket against Pres. Lyndon Johnson in the 1964 presidential campaign. In Stephanie’s case, the apple fell a few hundred yards from the tree.
