Update 3: 12:39 MSNBC is reporting that Judge Vaughn Walker has whiffed his stay. It will be lifted on Aug. 18, but that gives opponents plenty of time to find a court that will re-impose the stay. However, since the state is not opposing the judge’s ruling, there is a question about whether the private hate groups who support Prop 8 have legal standing to seek an appeal.

City officials in West Hollywood are ready to start marrying gay people again, if the judge allows it. It’s happening right outside my door — TV trucks are lined up across the street from my house, and if you tune into MSBNC, you’ll see the reporter outside Kings Road Park, which is near my house and the same lovely spot where we got married in October 2008.

Weho City Clerk Tom West says West Hollywood City Councilmembers are gathering at City Hall awaiting the decision by Judge Walker about whether to lift his stay on his Prop 8 ruling. If he does – they will start performing marriages at the small Kings Road Park – 1000 Kings Road.
City council member John Duran tweeted that he was “at Kings Road Park with my best judicial robe on – come on Judge Walker. Do what’s right. Couples standing by. Federal shotgun wedding!”
The decision is expected between 9AM and 12 noon. Those wishing to get married would need to apply for a license through the Los Angeles County Registrar, which could then be picked up at the Beverly Hills Courthouse.
