Limbaugh Vents Racism at Oprah – Attributes Her Success Solely to White Guilt

ESPN Fired Limbaugh in 2003 Because of Similar Racist Comments

Nastiness spews out of Rush Limbaugh like oil gushing out of the hole in the bottom of the Gulf:

[Rush] Limbaugh suggested Tuesday that Winfrey and other African-Americans owe their success to their skin color.

“If Obama weren’t black, he’d be a tour guide in Honolulu or he’d be teaching Saul Alinsky Constitutional law or lecturing on it in Chicago,” Limbaugh announced.

“He wouldn’t have been voted president if he weren’t black. Somebody asked me over the — oh, I need to remember. Somebody asked me over the weekend, why does somebody earn a lot of money, have a lot of money. I said it`s because he’s black,” he continued.

Limbaugh then went on to attack Winfrey. “It was Oprah. No, it can’t be. Yes, it is. There’s a lot of guilt out there. To show we’re not racist, we’ll make this person wealthy and big and famous and so forth,” said Limbaugh.

The paradox here is that, by every metric imaginable, Oprah Winfrey is more talented and successful than Rush Limbaugh will ever be.

Unlike Oprah, who earned her success by having a broad appeal and the substance to back it up, Limbaugh has a very limited appeal. As was noted here last year, “the average age of right-wing radio listeners is 67. It’s also truly not shocking that this demographic is also predominantly male. According to a Pew study in February, 72 percent of Limbaugh’s elderly listeners are men…”

And, unlike Oprah, who is one of the top interviewers on television, Limbaugh is apparently incapable of conducting an interview on the air. And, unlike Winfrey who is multifaceted — a movie and television producer, an Oscar-nominated actress, a magazine publisher and a major philanthropist — Limbaugh has just one skill: He is the best-paid disseminator of right-wing disinformation and propaganda working today.

When it comes to discussing any topic other than politics, he is clearly out of his league. For example, his one foray outside politics, into sports as a football commentator on ESPN in 2003, ended abruptly when he made a blatantly racist comment about Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb that was very similar to what he said here about Oprah Winfrey.

“I think what we’ve had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,” Limbaugh said then. “There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn’t deserve. The defense carried this team.”

And as long as we’re dealing in stereotypes, it’s the cracker Rush Limbaugh who spent tens of thousands of dollars to feed his drug addiction, not Ms. Winfrey.

But who has had more advantages, Limbaugh or Oprah? Here’s a side by side comparisons of their careers:

For those not familiar with the nuances of racism rhetoric, “white guilt” is the idea that whites feel the need to make up for previous injustices to minorities by rewarding minorities today.

However, a closer look at the biographies of Oprah [and Limbaugh] seem to not mesh well with Limbaugh’s “white guilt” theory.

Winfrey hardly grew up in a privileged manner. She was born in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and grew up in poverty in Milwaukee’s inner-city. She landed a meager job in radio at the age of 19. Eventually she would get a local day-time television show in Chicago. Oprah worked 13 years in the industry before earning a nationally televised talk show.

Limbaugh, like Winfrey, had no formal education in broadcasting before getting his first radio job at the age of 16. He was born to a family with significant political connections with the Republican party. It took Winfrey over 13 years before she gained a national syndication. Limbaugh was in radio broadcasting on and off (from being fired or quitting) for approximately six years in the talk show host business before he would obtain a national broadcast. This means Winfrey had to work twice as long as Limbaugh before being “handed” her wealth by guilty white people under Limbaugh’s reasoning…

This is the philosophy of Rush Limbaugh, and those who attribute black success to white guilt. Essentially, they claim whites earned their rewards, while blacks were given whatever they have.

Limbaugh’s latest racist vitriol earned him a much deserved spot as Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World” on MSBNC Tuesday night:

OLBERMANN: “The United States is tilted in favor of black people. We have made it so easy that human beings inferior to the great Rush Limbaugh… inferior creatures like Obama and Oprah Winfrey have been made wealthy and big and famous and so forth… Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama and presumably every other black person in this country has not succeeded despite the fact they are black… they have succeeded because they are black, and only because they are black.”

Olbermann then concludes with a plea: “Oprah, please, crush this schmuck.”

If anybody could do it, she’s the one.

  1. Well, that settles it then. My former white, African American, Asian Indian, Hispanic, and Chinese students tell me that I was a great U.S. History teacher because I’m African
American, and not because I was very proficient in my job. I guess if Limpy says it, it must be true.

    Now let me go puke.

  2. As a white man, I have to say that this is one damning indictment of our education system in this country. That we produce idiots like Limbaugh and Palin and those who follow and believe them.

Citizens of this country need to take education of our children alot more seriously. We are producing alot of idiots and if we don’t fix it we will all soon be working for the russians and chinese.
