Never missing the opportunity to take advantage of a tragedy, Fred Phelps and his gang of haters at Westboro Baptist Church plan to picket the funerals of those killed in the Virginia Tech shootings.
On its website the hate group issues a warning:
“WBC will preach at the funerals of the Virginia Tech students killed on campus during a shooting rampage April 16, 2007. You describe this as monumental horror, but you know nothing of horror — yet. Your bloody tyrant Bush says he is ‘horrified’ by it all. You know nothing of horror — yet. Your true horror is coming. ‘They shall also gird themselves with sackloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads’ (Eze. 7:18).
Why did this happen, you ask? It’s simple. Your military chose to shoot at the servants of God today, and all they got for their effort was terror. Then, the LORD your God sent a crazed madman to shoot at your children. Was God asleep while this took place? Was He on vacation? Of course not. He willed this to happen to punish you for assailing His servants.”
If I were a Christian, I’d be outraged and ashamed that a hate group like the Westboro Baptist Church operated in the name of Christ.

The Crazy Christ People never cease to amaze me.
The bible states that homosexuality is wrong. But it also states that we shall not judge one another for only GOD has that right. You are not GOD. Your group does not represent GOD. You only represent the evil the devil has brought into this world. GOD does not like to see his children suffer and if you were truly children of our LORD then you would not protest the funerals of those killed at Virginia Tech because their families have suffered enough already and your needless and ignorant protests will do nothing but cause more pain and hurt because their children cannot even have a funeral without hostility. It was someones hostility and hate that took their lives. Must your hate ring through their death? Ask yourself one question: What Would JESUS Do?

Fred Phelps and his Westboro family are worse than you know. The Topeka Capitol-Journal, Phelps hometown newspaper, ran an expose on Phelps and it remains on the C-J website to this day. (Google: Loving God’s Hate).
Some of the sordid facts in the expose are: several of Phelps’ estranged children publicly accuse him of horrific and frequent abuse; the details of Phelps’ disbarment by the Kansas Supreme Court and the Federal Courts for repeated unethical conduct; details of his electronic abuse of public workers by sending hundreds, if not thousands of nuisance faxes and other communications to officials he disliked; and details of a successful civil suit brought by a candy vendor for thousands of dollars in unpaid products.
The report says the Phelps children were forced to sell the candy until late into the evening and during bad weather.
Despite the expose being on the Capitol-Journal website for years and despite several of Phelps’ children being attorneys employed by the family law firm, Phelps has never sued the Capitol-Journal for libel.
I am at a loss to understand those who feel any attempt to stop this madman’s vicious disruption of funerals, both military and civilian, is a violation of Phelps’ Constitutional right of free speech.
Free speech has always had some limitations, and he and his silly minions still spew their venom both loudly and often. The truth is Westboro Baptist Church wants to disrupt and capitalize on the pain and grief of others at a time when that pain can least be endured. It is the lowest of motives.
Over thirty states have now regulated demonstrations at funerals by manner of time or space, or both.
For those who somehow believe Phelps’ civil rights are being violated, I’d like to ask a few questions.
How far is too far away? Where would you draw the line of demarcation? Should Westboro be allowed to take their signs and obscene songs into the chapel?
Should they be able to lay down in front of the pallbearers? How about this. Should they be allowed to stand outside the chapel doors and disrupt the services with a bullhorn?
If you can’t in good conscience accept the above examples of conduct as exercising free speech, then you too know what the United States Supreme Court has always known. Free speech is not absolute.
The Phelps pompously stomp around like the Manson girls, desecrate the flag and sing their pitiful, vulgar parodies. They call mourners fags and whores. The get said what they want to say.
Let them continue to do so, but don’t let them make a mockery of other’s grief. Make them stay at a respectable distance and limit their access before, during and after a funeral.
Dare I say, it would be the Christ-like thing to do?
I cannot believe the ignorance and stupidity of a church to disgrace a funeral service. That is outrageous and i personally look forward to picketing everyone of those picketers funerals.
