Heard it before: Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Nebraska, spoke out yesterday against sending more troops into Iraq:
On the heels of new warnings from top U.S. generals about the possibility of civil war in Iraq, a senior Republican lawmaker on Sunday publicly questioned the wisdom of moving more American troops into Baghdad to stop the violence.
“Are we going to put our troops in the middle of a civil war?” Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Intelligence committees, asked on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
“This will be a slaughter of immense proportions,” he said. “The American people will not put up with it. The leadership in Congress will not put up with it.”
I’m not impressed. We’re getting used to occasional outbursts of sanity from Hagel and senators John McCain and Arlen Specter and others who make news pointing out various policy failures of the Bush Administration. But they never do anything. When it comes time to conduct a serious investigation or actually cast a vote in opposition, these Republicans always get back in line.
Put up or shut up.
At least HE is standing before the WHOLE WORLD AND CALLING IT LIKE HE SEES IT!
Now we will see if HIS STATE will back him up!
As a mater of record, I THINK that he is hitting damned close to the TRUTH , not matter what his politics.
Hagel has remained firm in his stance against the folly of Bush’s Iraq War for some time now, and I gotta tell ya: If Hagel turns out to be the only prseidential candidate in ’08 speaking out against “the insanity of war” (unlike our democrat so-called candidates), he’s going to get my vote, and I’ve voted democratic for over 35 years.

If Hagel is truly against the “insanity of war”, then why does he keep voting yes on the Iraqi war emergency budget bills Bush presents to Congress?
