First they came for gay people: Ford Motor Company has bowed to pressure from ultra-rightwing Christian extremists led by the American Family Association and pulled its advertising from gay and lesbian magazines and its sponsorship of gay events.
If you are not gay, you may think this attack on American values by the AFA only affects you indirectly, if it all.
In my youth, I did a 30-year stretch in the Bible Belt, and I believe that if Jesse Helmses and Jerry Falwells of this world had their way, after they have jailed (and/or executed) all the gays and lesbians in America, their next target would be adulterers, followed by single people who dared to have sex outside the holy bonds – and then everybody else who is not straight, white and Christianist.
Farfetched, you say?
The radical right is nearing victory on a three decades long crusade to give state law enforcement agencies absolute control over the reproductive rights of female citizens. It is unclear what the penalities will be for women and/or their doctors who violate the new anti-abortion laws by terminating zygotes, but what is crystal clear is that within five years after Samuel Alito is installed onto the U.S. Supreme Court, state police will start forcing women to reproduce.
Dan Savage, editor of The Stranger newspaper in Seattle, as well as his sex advice column, Savage Love, has more:
[The] same AFA fucks that have successfully intimidated Ford on the gay issue are also attacking straight rights—they’re the same assholes who have successfully intimidated retailers like Target into denying women access to morning-after pills. They’re the same assholes trying to convince the Feds not to release a vaccine for two strains of HPV , the virus that can cause cervical cancer in women. The HPV vaccine—already tested and 100% effective!—could save thousands of women’s lives every year. The AFA is fighting it.
[Call the Ford dealers in your areas and tell them that] AFA’s boycott of Disney didn’t go anywhere. Tell them that when the AFA threatened Kraft, Kraft told the AFA to go fuck themselves. But Ford? The “Built Ford Tough” boys collapsed into a puddle when the AFA assholes threatened them with a boycott. So let Ford know what you don’t buy cars from companies that caves to right-wing hate mongers. And when the local dealers tell you that they didn’t make this decision, tell them that’s too bad. Tell them to scream and yell to Ford HQ and get this decision reversed, or you will never, ever consider buying a Ford.
And corporations can reverse themselves. Microsoft caved to right-wing Christian bullies, and then reversed itself. Tell ‘em Ford can too. Tell ‘em Ford better.

This is the same thing that happened in Nazi Germany with the Jews. It is now happening in America and we have to stop it!
This is a very serious issue, because when rights are taken away from one group it then leads to another, and then everybody!

Like so many say, this has been building for 3 decades while the rest of us sat, fat and happy and relatively content with the status quo, and all watched, often complained, but voted “safe-state” Democratic party lies anyway, and oh don’t want to “spoil” the two-party totally corrupt corporate-state system, happily selling out almost every progressive ideal and social program every created in order to maintain that affluent comfort zone of cheap gasoline and low interest mortgages – and don’t forget cheap shopping at Walmart – all while a small but determined and annoying social minority of Americans known as leftists, socialists, communists, and real radicals of all causes, ALL loudly shunned by the moderate centrist Democratic ruling other party that will not tolerate critically necessary revolutionary changes to the cruelest most craven form of government ever created, the American capitalist free market “democracy”, and LO and Behold, the government has been taken over by criminal fascists and war mongering maniacs. It’s way too fucking late for politics-as-usual to save this country. All of us liberal’s know that Alito is going to get on the Supreme Court with no problem, and you can kiss Roe v. Wade good-bye, but also the conservatives can also kiss all of the women supporters good-bye too. I can’t believe that Ford caved into these right-wing Christians, these people are not Christians, they are fascist to the fullest extint! I thought I never see fascism of the like’s of Hitler, but I swear our country is on a highway to hell! What is next?
