In Pres. Carter’s new book, “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid,” he takes on the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians with a frankness that American politicians usually avoid. His criticisms have provoked some harsh blowback:
[Just] this week, an anonymous caller called into a C-SPAN interview and ranted at Jimmy Carter, calling him “a bigot, and a racist and an anti-Semite.” The caller continued, accusing Carter of “cozying up with every dictator, thug, Islamic terrorist there is.”
The rantings of a lunatic who made it through the pre-call screening somehow right? Time to check the systems and make sure it never happens again? No. This was the result of a coordinated smear where the charges of Jimmy Carter being an “anti-Semite” echoed through the right wing blogs and straight to Drudge Report.
This attack was amplified by numerous current right-wing online attacks on Carter at sites such as www.frontpagemag.com. From the right came a wave of attacks, Carter’s been “trying to (expletive) the Jews.” He’s friends with terrorists…
it shows you who is pulling the strings in this country. it is a shame that in a country that trumps itself as the “first” in democracy and liberty and free speech, that when someone objectively reports on something like the israeli apartheid, all of a sudden you are an anti-semite an a racist and a terrorist. secondly, no one in the worl is more qualified to discuss the arab-israeli problem than jimmy carter. he is the first and only leader in the history of the world to broker a peace treaty between israel and an arab nation. this treaty is also one of the longest standing treaties int he middle east, which when comapred to whats going ontoday over there, is a hell of an accomplishmet. its held since 1979…..28 years, thats pretty good.
also, calling Carter an Anti-semite is ridicilous. as a president, he was very pro-israeli. he met regularly with Menachem Begin. to say Carter is friends with terorists is also ridicilous. as a president, the Iranians and Arabs hated his guts. remember the Us-Iranian embassy hostages during Carter’s presidency??? Why, out of all people on this earth would the like the Arabs?? The book he wrote was not necesarilt written out of passion or the liking of Arabs, which he never had since they hated him, he wrote the book out of justice and equality for all peoples. Carter was once quoted as calling the Aytollah of Iran as a “a dirty Arab Dog”. Carter was no friend of the Arabs and the last thing he would want to do is write a book advocating their causes but Carter is a different man than that. He wrote the book because it was the right thing to do. in todays media, things are coverd up
ok, im almost done…I beleive Carter did the right thing. For an old man, he has big balls.( i mean it ina polite way) In today’s world where being aganst Israel or being in general being against the administration can cost you alot, he did not let that scare him. he stood for what he beleives in. He may have to pay for it as Carter now a have a scarlet letter sewn on him for doing the right thing, but for all of us that appreciate the truth, whether we like it or not, you have to give it to Carter…he may not have been the greatest president there ever was, but hey, he did the right thing and i think we should remember him for that. just as he had the balls to bash Bush at Mrs. Kings’ funeral in ATlanta in front of Bush himself, he ahs done so again with thei revelatuon that should be a must read for all AMericans. Carter might not be liked but a head to head comparison to Reagan is interesting. Carter produced more jobs per year than Reagan. He secured the hostages release. Carter did not support sweat shops or child labor and was not the 2nd highest ranked anti labor president. Bush 43 holds that title. Carter took in more tax revenue than he had in spending unlike the last 5 republican presidents that on their watch are entirely responsible for our entire national debt.
