There was one contest in doubt, however. And with results in, the only bad news for the state’s liberal majority is that Birther queen Orly Taitz lost her bid to run as the Republican candidate against incumbent Secretary of State Debra Bowen, a Democrat, in November.
Taitz received 368,210 votes, but her opponent won with over 1 million votes. (Now we know that the approximate number of certifiable nutcases in California is 368,000, or about 1 percent of the state’s population.)
Taitz’ loss is also another sign of the weakness of the tea party mob phenomenon in California — as was the loss of tea bagger Chuck DeVore in the U.S. Senate Race. DeVore received just 19 percent of the Republican vote.
Having Taitz in the number three slot on the GOP ticket would have caused trouble for the Whitman and Fiorina campaigns, because it would have given Taitz a new platform for her bizarre beliefs about Pres. Obama.
The president’s approval is around 60 percent in California, so Whitman, Fiorina and other Republicans would have likely had to defend Obama — at least to the point of agreeing he is a legitimate U.S. citizen — while contending with the fact that Taitz was pulling the national media spotlight (also known as “free media”) away from them and their campaign issues.
Some of Taitz’ beliefs about the president include:
- A number of homosexuals from Obama’s former church have died mysteriously.
- Obama has dozens of social security numbers, and his passport is inaccurate. Taitz claims that a person who was cooperating with the FBI in connection with Obama’s passport died mysteriously, “shot in the head”.
- A Kenyan birth certificate with the name “Barack Obama” is authentic.
- Obama’s first act as president was to donate money to Hamas, which she claims will be used to build Qassam rockets.
- Obama or someone connected to him has made threats to Taitz’s life, including vandalizing her car.
- Obama is having the Federal Emergency Management Agency build internment camps for “Anti-Obama dissidents.”
Even if Taitz had won the nomination, her chances in November would have been roughly slim to none. Bowen has a proven track record and is very popular and is in a strong position to win reelection in the fall.
The money behind the Tea Pary people, the Republicans, set this in motion last spring and summer as a grass roots populist movement and the gullible media ran with it to the point that those of us rational, logical voters got sick of hearing and seeing the very worst of what has become the Republican party. Even elected leaders on the floor of their respective houses of Congress, we heard and witnessed some of the most idiotic, over the edge and down right ludicrous rhetoric. How could the American people not finally come to and see what was passing as American politics as normal? What we’ve seen is the GOP once again going all in with a losing hand. Now they can’t seem to reign in what they have wraught. Oh well, maybe some day they will learn when enough is enough. But until then we will see this kind of overkill on the part of those Republicans who just can’t understand how they are out of power. How did they become the minority? Somebody should make them understand before they completely self-destruct.
