The Secret to George and Laura Bush’s Deviled Eggs Recipe – Dijon Mustard

From the Bush White House website, here is proof that Sean Hannity is right, for once: Dijon mustard is what the elite like to eat. If the right wing’s own aristocratic Dear Leader — the grandson of Sen. Prescott Bush of Connecticut and a direct descendant of Pres. Franklin Pierce, no less — puts it in his egg salad, it must be fancy:

President and Laura Bush’s Deviled Eggs Recipe

12 large eggs, boiled hard and peeled
1 Tbsp (plus) soft butter
1 Tbsp (plus) mayonnaise
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp Yucatan Sunshine Habanero sauce
Salt to taste

Cut eggs in half and set aside. Put egg yolks in food processor and add all ingredients. Process for 20 seconds or until mixture has blended. Check for taste and increase mustard, salt or Habanero sauce if desired. Place mixture in piping bag with star tip and pipe into egg halves. Sprinkle with paprika and chopped parsley. Chill for about an hour before serving.

Note about Yucatan Sunshine Habanero sauce: Habanero is a type of hot sauce, which can be substituted with Tabasco sauce. Yucatan Sunshine and other brands of the sauce can be purchased at most local supermarkets nationwide. The Bushes used the Yucatan Sunshine Habanero when living in Texas, and now the White House chef uses the sauce in a variety of recipes.

Personally, there are few flavors I hate more than hot mustard, so I prefer good ol’ American French’s.

  1. “I prefer good ol’ American French’s.” French’s is owned by a UK company… so NOT american – reckittbenckiser.com

  2. You’re missing the point. The point is that Obama chose dijon mustard over ketchup when dressing his cheeseburger. It was his use of dijon mustard as the lone dressing on his burger that Fox deemed elitist. I’M JUST SAYING

  3. No David, Biden ordered Swiss cheese, jalapeno peppers, (OMG! Switzerland and Mexico!) and ketchup with no mustard, while Obama ordered mustard, then added, “I just want mustard, no ketchup, but you got like a spicy mustard, something like that, or a dijon, something like that? Uh, lettuce, tomato. You guys got – are your fries pretty good? Can you vouch for your fries?” So what point are we missing exactly?

  4. A pox on all of ’em. Meat is murder.

And Bob, thanks for the info on French’s. I’m surprised to learn it’s a UK product, because my UK friends had never heard of it when they were here (and it’s hard to find it in France). But here’s the other surprise, I guess. Dijon is made by Kraft Foods.

  5. Mustard. Seriously? And dijon is now as common as…frickin’ SPAGHETTI. And just as “exotic.” Most of it is not even made in Dijon, France. Many brands are “dijon-STYLE” mustards, which still get away with calling themselves dijons, even without the usual white and/or burgundy wine…again, pretty pedestrian.

But all this is beside the point. This whole thing is a silly distraction. Who gives a rat’s ass what Obama prefers on his burger? It’s like the faux-rage over arugula – which many American farmers grow, eat, and make a living from, for pity’s sake. It’s LETTUCE. Can we all please stop being distracted by arguments with the wingnuts over the “elitist!” faux-issue?? Sheesh. OK, done yelling.
