In the Oval Office yesterday, Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s exit statement to the American people summed up why the Iraq war has become a debacle:
The great respect that I have for your leadership, Mr. President, in this little understood, unfamiliar war, the first war of the 21st century — it is not well-known, it was not well-understood, it is complex for people to comprehend. And I know, with certainty, that over time the contributions you’ve made will be recorded by history.
Sorry, sir, but some of us mere citizens understood from the outset that invading Iraq would open a Pandora’s Box of nasties — the ratcheting up of terrorist activities worldwide, the creation of a 51st American state in the Third World, as well as the insertion of American secular democracy into the one-thousand-year-old-conflict between Islam and Christendom, a long and unwinnable war that has only brought death and destruction to both sides.
With not a smidgeon of military expertise — but perhaps with an insight into world history not shared or that was simply ignored by our betters in Wasington — we saw that once these nasties had been released, there would be no way to put them back in the box.
Why did Rumsfeld, Cheney, Pres. Bush and the others do it? As the president finally admitted during a campaign stop last week, it was always about the oil, stupid. These high rollers took all our chips, placed them on top of the Iraqi oil fields and rolled the dice. It was anything but a sure bet, as we have seen.
Rummy is right about one thing: Pres. Bush’s “contributions… will be recorded by history.” He will be remembered as the Worst President Ever, in large part because he took the United States into a needless and disastrous war under false pretenses.
Impeachment is too good for him.
Yes, history will have the last word on Bush and it will not be pretty.
It IS mission accomplished, no worries.. your mission.. financing the arms/oil corporates to undreamt of profits, financing the genocide of the Iraqi people by USUK DU, other WMD and civil war, financing the Iraqi oil theft by the big 4 USUK oilcos., establishing a US puppet regime (a la Saddam) in Iraq, etc.. IT has been done in OUR name and OUR tax dollars.
This arrogant asshole and many of the neocon cabal fancy themselves superior to the American people and above reproach. Spending the rest of his pathetic life in prison, where he belongs, might help change his anti-democracy point of view.

Rumsfeld just better hope he’s in Paraguay holding the bag of cash from the US treasury that he and this regime stole from the people of this country,not least of which to mention the Billions they stole from and the 655,000 Iraqi people killed,and their ruined country,and nearly 3,000 US soldiers lives,before the full force of the wrath of the American people wakes up and is visited on these thugs and murderers.War criminal is too kind a word. That asshole,how stupid and insulting can he be.The people of the world have had to endure colonialists for far to long to miss this ‘wolf in sheeps clothe’.I’d like to know how many millions,or is it billions he gained in his war profiteering.The American people are just too dumb to understand the complexities of a lying sociopath who’s been stalking the corridors of power in this country since the days of Nixon.Some of us saw the whole thing coming and kept wondering why the checks and balances kept failing until we decide we were the only check left, and we may have to become the ‘deciders’ again on behalf of the world before what’s left of the ‘elite political class’destroys the planet.And I include the elite class of the Dem party too.Our wake up call is long over due and time is running out.We cannot,and the earth will not, tolerate anymore delays,that is, no time to think about profits.We must enact survival instincts,we have entered an emergency situation here on planet earth.Global warming is not a myth,war is destructive,and the US holds 12,000 nuclear weapons,2,000 on hair trigger alert,Depleted Uranium and cluster munitions litter the middle East,this is the state of our earth.It cannot long endure in this state.As we wake up we must alter this nightmare as we are now altered by it.
