Poetic Justice

In the diplomatic ranks, trained professionals toil,
To keep the peace and tamp down foreign turmoil.
But for Greek ambassador,
Trump picked an artful dodger —
The grifting, drunken blackmailer Kimberly Guilfoyle.

“One woman at a rally in New Jersey told me last week that she was ‘nauseously optimistic.’ That may capture a lot of people’s last-minute jitters.”
— Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), quoted by Axios, on what Democrats feel ahead of the midterm elections.
“I think Congress made a mistake not protesting turning the Rose Garden into what looks like the entrance to Liberace’s bathroom.”
— Former President Bill Clinton, quoted by The Wrap.
“Boy, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel. It feels like a real desperation play to me, because it has got zero basis in the law.”
— Republican election law expert Ben Ginsberg, quoted by Politico, on the Trump administration’s effort to invalidate Alaska’s election results.

A record number of women are running for state legislative seats this November, more than two-thirds of whom are Democrats, reports Florida Phoenix. Across the 46 states with legislative seats on the ballot, a total of 3,824 women are running — up from 2022’s previous record of 3,621 women candidates, according to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. Women make up 35.5% of all state legislative candidates this cycle. Currently, women hold about one-third of state legislative seats across the country — a record level of representation but nowhere near parity.

$1.4 billion
“Prediction markets about the 2026 midterm elections have surpassed $1.4 billion in trading volume as Election Day fast approaches,” CNN reports. “This year has seen massive growth in the prediction industry, where people can bet on real-world events like sports, entertainment and the weather. While small-scale election markets have been around for a while, they gained traction before the 2024 presidential election and have seen huge numbers for the 2026 midterms.”

G. Elliot Morris: “Low-knowledge 2024 voters say they backed Trump by 8 points, according to our poll. Today they give him a net job approval of ?27, a 35-point shift. Compare that to Trump’s approval rating among voters who got both questions right: These voters backed Harris by 1 point and now give Trump a net ?24 approval, a 23-point shift. … Low-information voters have moved against Trump at a higher rate than high-information voters, by 12 points.”

If I close my eyes, I hear W.
OH MY GOD! What a moron!
Wow! He will be elected! ‘Merica just luvs this sort a thang. There will a lot of folks who will vote fur him…. “cause he talks like us!”
I think the problem is with the interviewer. How dare he ask a serious question and worse, back it up by data. This is America, damn it, where our politicians are empty vessels and are selected by their corporate masters to be incapable of answering even the most basic questions about policy.
Of course abstinence works. The problem is with the irresponsible morons in society who continue to put temporary pleasure above everything else. That’s what the media and so many others “teach”… selfish gluttony above everything else. Throw out the morals, the natural laws and the truth! Yeah, you can walk out a 10th story window if you want to but gravity works. If you choose to ignore it and try to teach ways around it, well, good luck. Wake up, America! The truth is out there.
Arlene, you changed the subject. The question is about wasting money. Why does Texas continue spending millions of dollars teaching abstinence if Texas has the third highest rate of unplanned, unwed pregnancies? Obviously, teaching abstinence does not work in Texas.
This is typical conservative hypocrisy. Right wingers say they are against Big Government programs, but what they really mean is that they’re against government programs unless they support right wing ideology. What Perry was saying was that he was for wasting millions of dollars teaching abstinence because “it works” for him — politically.

You heard him say it: They’re not teaching it properly. Besides, they found 7 or 15 steroids. It’s just what I’m correlating. I think the People of Texas are with me here.

Abstinence education is as good as complete sex education in its effects according to 22 studies. The Governor was and is correct and those of you who mock his answer and part of the left-wing ideologues we plan to flush out November 2012.

When your source of ‘scholarly’ info is a Heritage foundation study, it pretty much reveals you as an ignoramus. This was the same think tank that supported Paul Ryan’s bill by predicting a 2.8% unemployment rate, claimed the Bush tax cuts would lead to 1.7 million new jobs by 2011, etc. No one with a brain takes them seriously.

Oh, and Perry is a tool. Which is obvious to everyone who isn’t a right-wing nutcase.
Yes Arlene, abstinence works. But abstinence education doesn’t, assuming that the point of it is to prevent teen pregnancy. Just ask Bristol Palin.
If his parents would have practiced abstinence he would not be here!!! Where did this MANIAC MORON COME FROM-where do they make people like him…If YOU vote for this man..you are guilty of “MORONITES”
Mustn’t touch one another in an impure manner. Mother will punish.
Texas you hired this fool, so you’ll have to keep him!
Hard to believe, but this video illuminates one of Gov. Rick Perry’s problems.
Perry has difficulty grasping the meaning of numbers.
Seriously, we must pity Perrry and the people who support him.
This man should have no place in local, state or national leadership.
We should pity Perry and (even more) the people who support him as their local, state or national leader.
