Following the lead of his rival for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, Sen. John McCain — who recently forfeited his straight-talking maverick persona to court the likes of Jerry Falwell — former “Mayor of the United States” Rudolph Giuiliani, who has close friends who are gay, campaigned yesterday in Pennsylvania for Sen. Rick Santorum, a virulent homophobe whose chief of staff is gay, and who once declared there was no distinction between homosexuality and bestiality:
Giuliani said Santorum had “taken many positions. Most of them I agree with.”
Now we learn that Giuiliani will campaign with Abramoff-scandal figure, and former head of the Christian Coalition, Ralph Reed who is running as a Republican for Georgia’s lieutenant governor.
Giuiliani is a former U.S prosecutor but now apparently has no problem appearing on stage with Reed, a longtime friend and political associate of prison-bound GOP corruption figure Jack Abramoff. Reed is alleged to have helped Abramoff bilk Indian tribes out of millions of dollars.
The media dubbed Giuiliani “Mayor the United States” after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, which ocurred when he was mayor of New York City — apparently because he showed up and did his job instead of hiding under a desk.
Clearly Giuliani is positioning himself for a run at the White House, and in doing so has flushed down many of the values he used to advocate down the toilet. I am disappointed, I am angry, and I have no doubt that a move like this will cost Giuliani New York in a Presidential Race against any Democrat
RATS of whatever stripe are “communal animals” and group together: what is the surprise here? Anyone who bought into RG’s grandstanding on “9/11” had to be more than a little naive.
Does the “conservative, family values” gang remember how RG swapped his old lady for a new one in a pretty sleazy way?
When Giuliani ran against David Dinkins (who was incompetent) in 1993, Giuliani ran as a centrist Republican and even a “liberal.” (he took the Liberal Party endorsement.)
However, giuliani was also catering to the Far Right.
When he took office, Giuliani initially pretended to be moderate and hid his RW nutcase views from the public. But after winning a 2nd term in 1997 over Ruth Messinger, GIuliani quickly morphed into Mussolini and governed like a right wing corporatist, Taliban nut case.
Giuliani’s support of the AMerican Taliban, led by the likes of Santorum and Ralph Reed, should only verify what I always knew — Rudy Giuliani —- RW Taliban corporatist.
Giuliani As Mayor
All in all Giuliani was a lousy mayor. He deserves some credit for crime reduction but that was mostly due to national trends, age demographics, and statistical fudging.
Giuliani shifted the tax burden to the middle class, raised middle class taxes/fees, helped keep a dreadful school system dreadful (To no fault of his own he inherited a mess from Ed Koch and it’s still a cesspool to this day)and was always more bully than bulldog.
Giuliani’s “leadership” on 9/11?? AFter stupidly insisting on putting a command center on the 23rd floor of the Twin Towers, Giuliani decided that instead of getting the firefighters out, he would run first. Those firefighters had inadequate radios thanx to Giuliani’s incompetence.
Then Giuliani decides to profit from 9/11 by diverting money intended to widowers by taking “fees” off the top for himself and his cronies.
Giuliani also hired Bernie Kerik as police chief. Like Bush, Giuliani is only comfortable when hiring incompetents so as he can feel superior because Giuliani is a lightweight. (He’d mess up cases in the DA’s office because of his grandstanding but practical inadequacy)
A Giuliani presidency would be a continuation of the worst elements of Bush. But will the Busheviks support a guy who divorced his wife on TV while his 2 kids watched with their mother?
Knowing that Rudy is endorsing these two demagogues, I’m reminded of that age old song: “the knee bones’ connected to the, leg bone; the leg bones’ connected to the foot bone; the foot bones’ connected to the… ass”
Guiliani is the guy who prowled the streets of NYC in black windowed limos with his buddy Kerik. While these two bums were out banging babes the mainstream press did not dare expose them for fear of loosing access to the power center. Giuliani and Bush have used 9/11 to their advantage and the ignorant people of this country have somehow bought into the myth that these low lifes are leaders, up to the job of protecting us. While Guiliani’s wife was home raising their son and persuing her own career, Rudy was banging his present wife. By the time he gets around to throwing his hat in the ring for president, he will probably be banging a new babe. When is the media going to hold these jerks accountable.
I have a hard time distiguishing between Guiliani’s political allies and the seediest side of our society..
