Short-sighted: President Bush has his supporters so frightened of terror that they are not thinking clearly. Worshippers of Mr. Bush are overlooking the fact that if President Bush is allowed to eavesdrop without warrants, torture suspects and demand our Google searches, and to ignore Congress and the courts, the next president will feel entitled to do the same — whoever she may be.

Sadly, I think you are correct in your assessment. These people act as if there will never be a day of reckoning.
Stunning incompetence only exceeded by their stunning hubris, yet I fear that through vote count rigging or an outright coup, the American Republic will be no more.
I only regret that I am too old and infirm to fight the bastards more effectively.
Or, if the Congress is Republican, any powers usurped by the Bush administration would immediately be rescinded for a Democratic president (who would of course “play nice” and allow it).
