Idaho GOP Wants to Abolish Anti-Discrimination Laws

I’d hire a gay guy if I thought he was a good worker. But if he comes into work in a tutu … he’s not producing what I want in my office. … If a guy has a particular predilection and keeps it to himself, that’s fine. But if he wants to use my business as a platform for his lifestyle, why should I have to subsidize that? And that’s what these anti-discrimination laws do.

— Cornel Rasor, chairman of the Idaho GOP’s resolutions committee, commenting on Idaho Republican Party leaders calling on state lawmakers to invalidate local ordinances that ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, the Spokesman-Review reports.

Banned Video Explains What Love Without Limits Really Means

The video rejected in The Ruth Institute’s “Reel Love Challenge.” The contest asked for college students or young adults age 18 to 30 to answer the question, “What makes lifelong love possible?” Apparently it has to be man-lady lifelong love only.

This video was first accepted, but after someone at the “Institute” actually watched it, it was thrown out. The Ruth So-Called Institute is a project of the National Institute for Marriage Education Fund, which is just another Focus on the Family spin-off that claims these bizarre “core values:”

  • Respect for the contributions of men to the family Marriage as a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman
  • Lifelong spousal cooperation as a solution to women’s aspirations for career and family

Verbatim

I urge all faith leaders and politicians to stop persecuting people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Every day people live in fear because of who they love. We are talking about our family members, our flesh and blood, our humanity. LGBT people are in our villages, towns, cities, countries — and our whole world…those of us who have freedom must speak out for those whose freedom is under attack. We can and must make a difference.

— Archbishop Desmond Tutu, writing in Essence magazine about his impending retirement from professional life but not from fighting injustice.

Conservative Olson: All Rights Aren’t Up for a Vote

Olson was probably only allowed to speak without being shouted down because of his conservative creds. After all, he was the man who won Bush v. Gore and was rewarded with the job of Solicitor General under George W. Bush. The entire exchange is great, but the part where he asks Chris Wallace whether we should also put FOX News’ right to free speech up to the voters is brilliant.
