Republican lawmakers are so performative, they’re artsy,
But as for governing, they’re not much of a party.
Though they’re ignoble and sophomoric,
They occasionally do the historic —
Like the firing of a House Speaker — lying Kevin McCarthy.
Matt Gaetz is just a shutdown-promoting asshat
Who wants to oust McCarthy if he works with Democrats.
But he needs the cooperation
Of the Democrat delegation,
So what do they do to Gaetz if HE works with Democrats?
“Kevin is playing politics. It’s not even clear if he constitutionally can expunge those things. If he wants to put his members in difficult races on the spot, that’s a decision he has to make. But this is not responsible. This is not about the flag still being there. This is about being afraid… Trump is the puppeteer, and what does he do all the time but shine a light on the strings? These people look pathetic.”
— Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), on CNN.
“Some days, Speaker Kevin McCarthy must look out over this House conference in awe and think: Are you maniacs trying to lose us the majority?”
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) raised $29 million in the second quarter, Punchbowl News reports. That outpaces Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) haul and positions Jeffries as a worthy fundraising successor to Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
“I’ll be blunt. If Speaker McCarthy continues in this direction, we are headed toward a default.”
— Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), quoted by Punchbowl News, on the latest proposal by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to raise the debt ceiling.
McCarthy’s win last week was a squeaker.
The wingnuts got strong while McCarthy got weaker.
They handed Kevin his nuts
And a thousand small cuts,
Now he’s less of a man and even less of a Speaker.
