Fox News and the Drudge Report praised Biden’s ‘barn burner’ DNC speech, despite attacks from Trump

From Business Insider: Joe Biden is winning rave reviews for his speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday night — even from usually critical pundits in conservative media.

After Biden’s speech aired on the final night of the Democratic National Convention’s first virtual conference, Fox News anchors, hosts, and analysts delivered their verdict, and it was one likely to rile President Donald Trump.

The “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace described the speech as “enormously effective.”

Trump Allies Might Create Fox News Competitor

$250 million

“Allies of President Trump are pursuing an effort to acquire right-leaning news channel One America News Network, in a bid to shake up a conservative media market that has been dominated by Fox News,” the Wall Street Journal reports. “The investment firm Hicks Equity Partners is looking to acquire the channel and is pitching other wealthy GOP donors to arrange a bid of roughly $250 million for the channel’s parent company, the people said. The firm is owned by the family of Thomas Hicks Jr., co-chairman of the Republican National Committee and a close friend of Donald Trump Jr.”

Fox News Anchors Raise Possibility of Charging Trump with Witness Tampering

“Adding, essentially, an article of impeachment real time as this hearing is going on.”

— Fox News anchor Bret Baier, who, with co-anchor Chris Wallace said that President Trump’s Friday tweets attacking ex-ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch during her testimony raised the possibility of an additional article of impeachment being added against Trump for witness tampering, CNN reports.

No Wonder Trump Hates Fox News Polls

32%

A new Fox News poll shows Joe Biden leading the Democratic presidential race with 32%, followed by Elizabeth Warren at 22%, Bernie Sanders at 17%, Pete Buttigieg at 4% and Beto O’Rourke at 3%. When you combine first and second choices, Biden and Warren are tied at 45% each, with Sanders at 34%. In general election matchups, Biden leads Trump by 50% to 40%, Warren tops him 50% to 40% and Sanders is ahead 49% to 40%.

Trump Faux Fight with Fox Is Good for Both

“Trump’s faux-fight with Fox is designed 1) to add drama and excitement to where there is none; 2) make him the primary focus of events; and 3) temporarily complicate the storyline so viewers keep watching. Fox benefits from Trump’s periodic attacks (remember when he boycotted one of Fox’s 2016 presidential debates because it wouldn’t dump Megyn Kelly from the broadcast). They make the channel look like it’s standing up to the president, and Fox ends up looking more independent and credible.”

Buttigieg Hijacks Trump’s Propaganda Machine

Presidential hopeful South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg used his town hall on Fox News Sunday as a progressive bully pulpit to label the president’s behavior “grotesque” and to call out Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham as the Trump toadies they are.

Whether you think Democratic primary candidates appearing on Fox is folly or not, Mayor Pete used his opportunity to rankle the right-wingers — and got a standing ovation from the New Hampshire audience at the end.
