Bush’s Funeral Was a Renunciation of Trump

“Bush’s funeral was so powerful a renunciation of his current successor because it was a celebration of character. Friendship was invoked 21 times by his eulogists. Loyalty, 10. ‘Honor,’ ‘integrity,’ ‘dignity,’ ‘decency’ and inner peace all recurred. Certainly, Bush could be a fierce partisan and a brutal politician (remember Willie Horton?), but his service in World War II — he was shot down over the Pacific — left him with lessons that fueled his generation’s greatness: The opposition is not the enemy. There are causes greater than self. Political defeat is not the worst thing. And American leadership in the world is indispensable. … Trump, for whom no cause is greater than self, must have struggled to sit through 90 minutes of something that was not all about him. Rather, it was all about what he is not.”

Voters Have Insults for Trump

37% to 57%

A new Quinnipiac poll finds President Trump’s approval rate is a dismal 37% to 57%. In an open ended question asking for the right word for Trump, voters are overwhelmingly negative with the most popular word being “idiot,” followed by “liar” and “incompetent.” Pollster Tim Malloy: “President Trump is known for hurling insults and he’s getting slammed right back.”

Diplomatic Dissent Cable Garners 1,000-Plus Signatures

1,000+

“Within hours, a State Department dissent cable, asserting that President Trump’s executive order to temporarily bar citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries would not make the nation safer, traveled like a chain letter — or a viral video,” reports the New York Times … “By 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the letter had attracted around 1,000 signatures, State Department officials said, far more than any dissent cable in recent years. It was being delivered to management, and department officials said more diplomats wanted to add their names to it.”

Now There’s a Handbook for Resisting Trumpism

Indivisible: A Practical Guide for Resisting the Trump AgendaSome former congressional staffers are taking a lesson from the Tea Party’s playbook to craft an organized resistance to the rise of the Trump State.

They’ve written a handbook called “Indivisible: A Practical Guide for Resisting the Trump Agenda,” which is freely available for downloading, sharing and editing. It might actually work.

What’s the Opposite of Endorse? Dallas Morning News

We have no interest in a Republican nominee for whom all principles are negotiable, nor in a Republican Party that is willing to trade away principle for pursuit of electoral victory. Trump doesn’t reflect Republican ideals of the past; we are certain he shouldn’t reflect the GOP of the future. Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote.

Obama Urges GOP Leaders to Withdraw Trump Support

The question they have to ask themselves is: If you are repeatedly having to say in very strong terms that what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him? … This isn’t a situation where you have an episodic gaffe. This is daily. There has to be a point at which you say, this is not somebody I can support for president of the United States, even if he purports to be a member of my party. The fact that that has not yet happened makes some of these denunciations ring hollow.

— President Obama, in his strongest denouncement of Donald Trump so far, said Trump is “unfit to serve as president” and urged the leaders of the Republican Party to withdraw their backing for his candidacy, the New York Times reports.
