It’s tempting to think that Kellyanne Conway, Donald’s robotically always-on-message spokesperson, made a classic Kinsey gaffe — meaning, she accidentally told the truth — in this Nov. 17 interview on Fox when she twice described the presidency as Donald’s “day job.” But it’s more likely it wasn’t a gaffe of any sort, but rather simply the truth.

After all, when his team tried to recruit Ohio Gov. John Kasich to run as Donald’s vice president, the conversation went like this:

Did [Kasich] have any interest in being the most powerful vice president in history?

When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.

Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?

“Making America great again” was the casual reply.

FOX NEWS: It’s clear he feels comfortable at [Trump Tower], that’s home. His family is there. His offices are there. But I think a lot of people have questions about what his plan is. Is he going to move full time to the White House or will be sort of watching him commute back and forth on a daily basis?

KELLYANNE CONWAY: Well, he’ll do whatever is necessary. Obviously if his day job is in Washington, you will see him there. And nobody wants to create a tenuous logistical headache long term for the public or for the service obviously. He loved his trip to Washington, D.C., last week. He is still talking about his visit with Pres. Obama and the meetings with Vice Pres. Biden, obviously Leader McConnell, Speaker Ryan, That’s where the day job is. That’s where he will be most focused. Obviously it’s a very unique situation with somebody who’s been incredibly successful in an entirely non-political industry in a city away from Washington, D.C. But he knows what the job entails. He’ll have the support of his family, as he always has. Should be a very exciting time, Martha.
