  1. What do the words “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” mean to you? Is the Wong Kim Ark case really a parallel case? Wong was born to parents who entered the United States legally. Furthermore, the case was really about whether someones past actions could cause his citizenship to be revoked: “the American citizenship which Wong Kim Ark acquired by birth within the United States has not been lost or taken away by anything happening since his birth.” Just a few years prior to the Wong Kim Ark decision, the Supreme court in Elk vs. Wilkins it was found that simply being born in the U.S. is not a cause to be a citizen if political allegiance lies elsewhere. Why were the words “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” be placed in the 14th amendment if they had no meaning or purpose?
Since progressives don’t like using the word baby while the child is still inside the mother, wouldn’t be more appropriate to use the term “anchor fetus”? It’s her right, right?
