40 Republican U.S. Senators Vote to Kill Medicare

Talking Points Memo:

The GOP continued its bloody walk into the Medicare buzzsaw on Wednesday, when 42 out of 47 Senate Republicans voted for the House GOP budget, and its plan to phase out and privatize the popular entitlement program.

The budget failed by a vote of 57-40. But the roll call illustrates that Medicare privatization — along with deep cuts to Medicaid and other social services — remains the consensus position of the GOP despite the growing political backlash against them.

Voting with all of the Democrats were Sens. Scott Brown (R-MA), Olympia Snowe (R-ME) — both 2012 incumbents — along with Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK). Rand Paul (R-KY) voted against it because it wasn’t radical enough.

  1. Every paycheck I’ve earned over 47 years of working has had Medicare support withheld. Before Ryan and the rest of the Teapublican gang destroy the program I’ve been paying for all these years are they going to give me all of my money back with interest?

  2. Can’t say I agree all the way but sometimes private is better than public, sometimes way more accountable too.

  3. Us more mature folks who depend on SS are healthier and younger than our parents…we are young enough to fight back in the name of our grandchildren. I will not leave them in the hands of the Teabagpublicans. I will not stand idly by as they rip abortion out of women’s rights and turn America into a feudal system run by the Lords of Corporation. We are the generation who made a difference, we ended the Vietnam War through demostration. Why now, when all that has been accomplished do we sit idly by and watch the rights of our grandchildren and ours ripped from our moral code by this mysognist TeabagPublicn Party. Now, we become timid? Are we going to sit on our hands forever? No-violent protests, remember them?

  4. @ Jethrow,

Eh, gonna have to respectfully disagree with you that your generation ended anything or made anything better. Your generation is what spawned 40 years of Neo-Conservatism and expansion of the military industrial complex, hate to break it to you. Also Teabagpublican….This doesn’t make you sound cool, swift or anything of the sort. It makes you sound like a kid with no better come back other than the shit we’d hear on the playground and guess what? It wont be that “king of the sandbox” mantra that helps you win anything.

And lol, a Feudal system? Have you ever considered what the Fed is? I know this is going to sound like I’m a Ron Paul supporter and while I agree with him better than any Republican ( lets face it, they’re hardly protecting the Republic ) probably because he’s a libertarian, but, the Fed was created to protect Capitalism and the Free Market, right? So the Government delegated the power reserved to them, to a Private bank that virtually has no oversight and practically can do whatever it wants, and we pay our income tax to them. And you’re focusing on flower power tactics to win back the Republic? Flower power was a bunch of bullshit, you want change? Put the partisan shit away and join the rest of the human race, is it not them you believe to be fighting for anyway?

  5. Hey you, I bet you grew up with computers and digital phones and televisions. If you do not think my generation accomplished anything…maybe you should try a little reading. I do not when anyone called hippies conservatives.

And they would have to be awful stupid to try it. Also, once upon a time, the government were balanced between the middle class and corporate capitalism, but now your teabagging politicians sold their souls to the company store and there is nothing left for the poor and the seniors. Flower power worked a lot better than Ronald Reagan’s trickle down policy. How is that working for you?

You really think all those hippie and deadheads are conservatives. Obviously, you do not respect your elders.

  6. Hey Tony, You know something? I think those republihogs that voted to “privatize”(make some lazy ass ceo bloody rich with our freakin money, with less service so they can pay for elections.), medicare and and Social Security,so as to get all us lazy seniors, who could STILL likely work your button pushing ass under the deck anytime, “Off the dole”, so they can give more to the oil companies in the form of corporate welfare, ‘scuse me, “subsidies”, and give those who need it most,(not), tax cuts, committed political suicide. And Ron Paul is a certifiable nutbag, (I have a better name but am more of a gentleman than to publish it).
Jethrow is right, and one last thing he is right about is the lack of respect for elders these “give it all to me” kids have these days. We paid in. It’s ours. We are NOT living on YOUR f^(&in’ DIME! So read something other than the world according to Ron Paul and Michelle Bachmann and diversify it some to get REAL facts. Then come to the discussion not sounding like a low information, winey ass, spoiled little rich kid. Tis better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth(or in this case write), and remove all doubt. Fully three quarters of the teabaggers are card carrying medicare recipients and are too stupid to realize that little “factoid”. But they will.
Have a nice day. I won’t respond to anything YOU write from now on either, so it will be a waste of your time to attempt to “lash out” at me for having my info right and pointing out that Jethrow WAS RIGHT!! The protests DID TOO put pressure on Nixon to get out, probably before you were even a thought.
