CA Sen: Anti-Gay Hate Group Takes Credit for Carly Fiorina’s Primary Win

The last time the National Organization for [Hets-Only] Marriage was in the news was during the Carrie Prejean scandal, when NOM’s Maggie Gallagher publicly humiliated herself by first rushing in to support Prejean after she came out against gay marriage during the Miss Universe pageant — only to drop Prejean months later when it was revealed that a recent boyfriend was in possession of solo sex home videos produced by the future Miss California USA. This was embarrassing for Gallagher who is also an anti-porn crusader.

Now, in the afterglow of the Republican primary in California, the New Jersey-based group is back in the news. Despite the fact that gay rights were not an issue during the primary campaign, NOM is taking complete credit for Carly Fiorina’s victory in the U.S. Senate vote on Tuesday:

After a slight dip in March, Tom Campbell had regained a sizeable and consistent lead over opponents Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore. The latest poll showed Campbell with a 15-point lead over Fiorina. On May 19th, NOM launched an automated phone campaign to 600,000 likely GOP primary voter households, informing them of Tom Campbell’s support for same-sex marriage. We followed up the phone campaign with an internet ad campaign and website: www.StopTomCampbell.com.

Overnight, the next poll, taken May 21-23, showed Carly Fiorina with a startling 23-point lead over Campbell, 46 percent to 23 percent, as Campbell’s support dropped by one-third.

Certainly there were many factors that played into that dramatic shift — by that time, pro-life and pro-family advocates had joined together in the effort to stop Tom Campbell, Fiorina campaign ads were blanketing the airwaves, and Sarah Palin had endorsed the Carly Fiorina — but only NOM’s May 19-21 outreach to 600,000 GOP primary voters can explain the dramatic, overnight reversal in the polls.

See? That’s all it took. A few hundred thousand hate-filled robocalls — et voila! — California Republicans goose-stepped in lockstep to the polls to vote against Tom Campbell because, unlike Carly Fiorina and Sarah Palin, he’s simply not bigoted enough.

Considering the fact that a poll released in April found that Californians support gay marriage 50 percent to 45 percent, Fiorina, who opposes gay marriage but supports domestic partnerships, could well find herself defending the robocalls and the hate group’s role in her primary campaign in the run-up to Election Day.

  1. All that ugliness she is carrying around in her body makes her look a touch overweight. Negative energy is like a boomerang.

  2. Gallagher and her NOM supporters are pitiful. This is all I will say in the interest of not being too disrespectful. I’m heterosexual, but I just cannot understand what the problem is with folks who align themselves with organizations of this sort.

  3. Somebody please tell me that the pic was photoshopped, or otherwise not visually accurate.
Because whoever — or whatever — is displayed in the pic clearly is not a living, breathing human being.
At best, it’s one of those little Lego® critters.
Seriously, what human has a neck diameter absolutely identical to that of its head?
I’ve heard the term “neck-head” thrown about (usually in the context of hard-core gym-rats), but there’s no way the term could ever be a literal description of an actual human, could it?
And yes, I know I’m being revoltingly looks-ist here, but c’mon; there are limits.
(And no, I am absolutely not being sexist; that… thing… would be equally repellent regardless of gender.)
I think LeeRoy, above, nailed it. If I looked anything like that, I’d be mighty pissed off at the whole universe, and happy to take it out on anyone or anything that wandered across my field of vision. (I mean that literally, too; I doubt that thing has enough strength to turn its head w/o motorized assistance — heavy-duty, industrial-strength waldoes.)

  4. I’m not sure if mg’s weight & awful looks is relevant but I do enjoy a good jab at someone as evil as he is . The world is a funny place when someone with a bastard child (mg’s) and morbidly obese (mg) can deny anyone their liberty’s.
After all, my tax $$ pays for her obese lifestyle choice…straining our healthcare system. I probably helped support her bastard child as well. So, why not back-off maggie and let the rest of us live our lives…maybe even make a few mistakes on our own without your “divine guidance”. Carly…if you can’t vote & can’t run a company…you’re not running my state. Bye-bye !!
